It’s World Alzheimer’s Day 2025. This day was created to raise awareness and challenge the stigma around Alzheimer’s disease. Here are some symptoms to watch for in those you love.
The 5 A’s of Alzheimer’s:
- Amnesia: Memory loss that starts with short-term memories and progresses to long-term memories.
- Aphasia: Difficulty with language, including expressing oneself and understanding others.
- Apraxia: The inability to perform familiar, purposeful movements or tasks, such as dressing or using utensils.
- Agnosia: The inability to recognize familiar people, objects, tastes, or sounds, even when the senses themselves are intact.
- Anomia: A specific type of aphasia characterized by the difficulty in finding the right words to name things, although the person knows what the object is.
