July is UV Safety month! With the 4th of July Holiday approaching we wanted to give you some tips about protecting your skin while you are enjoying the festivities.
- Do not burn or Tan: Avoid intentional tanning. It may contribute to skin cancer and premature again of the skin.
- Seek Shade: Get under cover when the sun’s rays are the strongest between 10am and 4pm.
- Wear protective clothing: Wear long-sleeved shirts and pants and a wide brimmed hast as well s UV-blocking sunglasses.
- Generously Apply Sunscreen: Use a Broad Spectrum sunscreen with a Sun Protection Factor (SPF) of 30 or higher for protection from ultraviolet A (UVA) and ultraviolet B (UVB) rays, which contribute to premature aging, sunburn and skin cancer. Apply generously 15 minutes before going outside and reapply every 2 hours or after swimming.
- Use extra caution near water and sand as these elements have a reflective quality and can increase your chances of sunburn.
