Here are a few tips to keep you healthy this Summer:
- Avoid dehydration by hydrating before during and after outdoor activities. Drink plenty of water, even if you don’t feel thirsty. Dehydration can lead to headaches, lightheadedness, fainting, and other health issues.
- Avoid Sunburn and Sun Damage by applying SPF 30 or higher sunscreen before and during outdoor activities in the sun. This prevents skin cancer, sunburns and premature aging.
- Exercise at cooler times of the day. By shifting your exercise routine you can avoid overheating and possible heat stroke from outdoor related activities.
- Eat a healthy well balanced diet that includes seasonal fruits, and vegetables, vegetable juices, and salads. These foods will nourish your body and also help you stay hydrated.
- Avoid bug bites by using insect repellent that contains 20-30% deet on exposed skin and clothing. Use bug nets when sleeping in the great outdoors to protect against mosquitos.
- Keep food safety in mind when grilling out or picnicking. Cook food thoroughly and keep warm. Keep cold foods at 40 degrees or below. Don’t leave food out for longer if the weather is more than 90 degrees.
