Prostate Cancer Awareness Month

September is Prostate Cancer Awareness month! Here are some things to know about prostate cancer.
• Early detection is important and can save lives. Make an appointment with us today to get screened.
• Screening options include a digital rectal exam and a blood test for prostate-specific antigen (PSA)
• Prostate cancer is more common in older men, men with a family history of prostate cancer, and in men of African American descent.
• Potential symptoms include urinating often, pain in the back, hips, or pelvis and weak or interrupted flow of urine.
• The PSA blood test measures the levels of PSA in a blood sample and is a good indicator you may need to see your physician if the levels are high.

At North Star Family Medicine we care for the whole person. If you think you might be at risk for prostate cancer you can easily schedule an appointment with us to discuss your treatment options. Book on line at www.northstarfamilymedicine.org or give us a call at 218-382-2870.
