It’s Food Allergy Awareness Month!
This month is dedicated to raising awareness about food allergies. While many different foods can cause allergic reactions, the Food Allergen Labeling and Consumer Protection Act of 2004 (FALCPA) identified eight foods as major food allergens: milk, eggs, fish, Crustacean shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, wheat, and soybeans.
Here are some known symptoms of food allergies to watch for:
- Hives
- Flushed skin or rash
- Tingling or itchy sensation in the mouth
- Face, tongue or lip swelling
- Vomiting and/or diarrhea
- Abdominal Cramps
- Coughing or wheezing
- Dizziness and/or lightheadedness
- Swelling of the throat and vocal chords
- Difficulty breathing
- Loss of consciousness
